Why should I choose a celebrant?

Choose the right person to conduct your ceremony

Registry offices in town hall venues aren’t always to everyone’s tastes, so many people choose a venue of their own. But booking a council registrar to come to the venue you have chosen can seriously limit the dates you had in mind.

Not only that, but you won’t meet the person conducting your wedding ceremony - it will be whoever from the local authority is available on the the day.

By choosing a celebrant you are in control of who reads the ceremony, will meet with them before the big day, and speak several times on the phone, to make your day exactly how you want it.

Have a ceremony outside, or in an unusual venue

If you’ve already begun looking for the perfect place, you are probably familiar with the rules and restrictions venues are bound by. Often the room you liked the most at a hotel, house, or castle isn’t one that council registrar weddings can be performed in. That’s where using a celebrant can help - there are no restrictions.

If you’ve wondered how a celebrity wedding has taken place outside, or in a non-approved wedding venue, the answer is because they have chosen to have a celebrant instead.

By being able to use venues other than those registered with the local council, you can be more creative, more unique, and sometimes save some money if you are being cost conscious.

Charlotte Roscow can also help find unusual venues that suit your tastes.

A celebrant takes time to write a unique ceremony that includes any humanist or religious elements that you both would like.

Make the ceremony your own

In a registrar-conducted civil wedding ceremony you won’t have any say over important elements of the wording.

For instance, you might not be particularly religious, but a family member would like a prayer included, which isn’t permitted in a council-conducted wedding ceremony. Or perhaps you wanted to include elements of two different religions you each follow. A celebrant will write the ceremony with you, including any religious or humanist elements you would like.

It can be daunting to think about what you would like in the most important part of your special day. A celebrant will meet with you in advance, and be on the end of the phone at every step of the way.
